Summer Book Event: D-Strings Set & Naughty Little Bedtime Stories Plus Giveaway

About Rising Sun, Half Moon, Rock Stars: D-Strings Set

They are friends in public, lovers in private. In an age of sex, drugs, rock and roll, they want it all. But 'all' has a different definition to everyone. What happens when sexy drummer Matt Loren wants bandmate Jules Breaux as more than a bedroom plaything? Is her love more than a four letter word?

Book Excerpt

With a roll, her feet were on the floor and flying to the door. He hardly ever arrived in the middle of the night like this without a phone call to her room first. She could feel him on the other side, but she forced a few deep breaths into her lungs and counted to ten. Squeezing her eyes tightly together, she reopened them only halfway as she unlatched and pulled at the door.

“Hey.” Modulating her voice, she made sure it sounded casual and even sleepy.

“Hey. Had a bad dream. S’okay if I sleep in your bed tonight?” So sexy, he stood, taking the time to look her over before entering the room. No sooner had she shut the door, than he turned, pinning her against it for a deep kiss. “Tried to call you a couple of times…” Reaching over her, he locked the door and then began to kiss her again.

“Went to the party.” She managed to speak around his kiss.

“Mmh hmm. How was it?” Both hands closed around both of hers. His tongue glided along her lips as he spoke.

“Okay, I guess. Where were you? You stay around here?” His breath, his taste was more than slightly alcoholic. Unusual for him. She punctuated each sentence with a return kiss.

“Went with Keith to a club.” Bringing her hands up, he trapped them between his and the door.

“Keith? Really?” She could barely imagine Matt drinking beers with Keith, but he had definitely had more than a few. And not just beers. She could taste and smell the hard liquor. Not enough to reek, but enough to ingest with each breath he took—probably enough that, for once, he didn’t taste it on her. Getting out on the town was not something they had done much on the road, and she sulked against his lips. “Well I would have gone. You didn’t have to take Keith.”

“You wouldn’t have gone.” Blissfully, his body sandwiched hers snugly between his and the door. Their handclasp was palm to palm, hers still between his and the door. “Wasn’t that kind of club, cari.”

It took her several extra seconds to realize he was speaking of a strip club. If his alcohol count tonight surprised her, this new revelation surprised her more. Somehow, she disentangled her tongue enough to tease, “Really? You don’t know that.”

“Really? Thought I did.” The smug kiss that followed was extra firm, and she smiled into it, feeling his return smile.

Restless to touch him, she strained her hands against his for the umpteenth time. He let them go this time, but in two swift movements, he exposed her completely to his gaze—the admiring gaze she now knew she craved.

“So pretty. Prettier than anyone, anywhere.” Her back, now bare, made contact with the door as he moved in close, sliding a hand down between them as he did so.

Her gasp, like so many times before, was smothered by his kiss. A kiss combined with a touch that was quickly making her mindless. Like his hand, his words caressed her over and over, and in a random moment of clarity, she demanded in mock outrage, “Did you just compare me to strippers?”

“Yep. The hottest, classiest strippers. It’s a legendary place. His tone was light, bantering, and then he finished solemnly, wisely, “But there is no comparison.”

Excerpt from Strawberries and Whipped Cream

We ate dinner, drank some wine, and talked about our week. Maybe tonight I would finally pop the question. After cleaning up, I refilled our glasses.

"Did you get something for dessert?" Emma asked.

I smiled. "Yes, I did. Why don't you go into the living room and make yourself comfortable while I get it ready."

"Okay. Are you sure you don't need help?"

"I'm sure."

After she left the kitchen, I gathered the bowl of strawberries and can whipped cream from the fridge. I walked in the room to find her on the couch, sipping her wine. I sat down next to her and placed the food on the coffee table.

"I love strawberries, but why the can of whipped cream?" she asked with a twinkle in her eyes.

"Close your eyes. No peeking," I whispered in her ear.

I took a strawberry and traced her bottom lip with it. She opened her mouth slightly, and I allowed her to take a small bite. A low moan escaped her lips, and my dick twitched in response. I began to feed her another piece of fruit. My cock was getting harder by the minute as I watched her lips wrap around the strawberries.

"I want to feed you one," she said as she opened her eyes.

"I have a better idea. Close your eyes," I said in a deep voice.

Emma sighed and closed her eyes. I picked up a strawberry and touched her bottom lip with it, and she opened her mouth to take it in. I leaned in and bit the other end, letting our lips meet and eliciting a faint squeal from her.

"Would you like some whipped cream?" I asked her as I grabbed the can and shook it.

"Yes," she whimpered.

I squirted some whipped cream on her bottom lip. She seductively licked them while looking at me lustfully. I groaned, shifted to adjust myself, and placed my lips on hers. She wrapped her arms around me and the kiss deepened. Our tongues rubbed against each other. She tasted like whipped cream. Pulling away, I placed kisses down her neck and made my way to her chest. I lifted her shirt over her head. She was wearing a pink lace bra.

"Beautiful," I whispered as I reached around her and unhooked her bra. I slid the straps off her arms, placing more kisses on her neck. "Lay back," I told her as I took my shirt off.

I unbuttoned her jeans and slowly unzipped them. She lifted herself up as I slid them down her amazing legs and threw them on the floor. She was a sight to behold in just a pair of pink boy shorts.

"Do you trust me?" I asked.

About the Author:

Mina was born and raised in the East Farthing of Middle Earth (otherwise known as the Midlands, England) and spend her childhood learning all the sorts of things generally required of a professional adventurer. Able to ride, box, shoot, make and read maps, make chainmail and use a broadsword (with varying degrees of efficiency) she was disgusted to find that adventuring is not considered a suitable occupation these days.

So, instead of slaying dragons and hunting vampires and the like, Mina spends her days writing about hot shifters, government conspiracies and vampire lords with more than their fair share of RAWR. Turns out wanna-be adventurers have quite the turn of imagination after all...

(But she keeps that sword sharp, just in case the writing career is just a dream and she really *is* an adventurer.)

The boring part: A full time author and cover artist, Mina can usually be found hunched over a keyboard or graphics tablet, frantically trying to get the images and words in her head out and onto the screen before they drive her mad. She's addicted to coffee and would like to be addicted to chocolate, but unfortunately chocolate dislikes her.

Read an Excerpt

Sebastian and his wolf were ecstatic; they were sitting at the table with their mate eating breakfast. Something so mundane, but perfect in every way. Once they were done eating, Sebastian helped Nathan clean the kitchen and afterwards they went into the living room to watch some television and snuggle. The television watched them more than; they watched it because Sebastian couldn’t get enough of his mate's lips.

“I think your phone is ringing.” Sebastian said as he pulled his lips away from Nathan’s. Looking into Nathan’s eyes, Sebastian saw they were glazed with passion.

“Right give me a second.” Nathan panted out and pulled his cell phone out of his pocket to answer it.

“What’s up Noah?” Sebastian heard the hitch in Nathan’s voice as he nipped at his neck, then started drawing tiny circles with his tongue. Being so close, he heard what their Alpha said.

“I need you to go on patrol again.” Noah said.

Nathan lifted from the couch pushing Sebastian off him.

“What’s the matter?”

“Jake was supposed to do it, but we can’t find him.” Sebastian could hear Noah’s frustration clearly through the phone line.

“Do you think the Hunters took him?”

“Fuck if I know. We need to catch these bastards before some seriously gets hurt.”

“That we do, give me thirty minutes and I’ll start the patrol.” Nathan said as he stood and went to the bedroom, Sebastian following behind him.

“Thanks brother.”

“Anytime, you know that.”

Nathan hung up the phone and started to get dressed; Sebastian pulled on his clothes from the night before, and once he finished, he pulled Nathan into his arms.

“We will get them, come with to my house so that I can change, and I’ll go with you.” Sebastian said as he walked Nathan to the door.

“Yeah, that would be great. If those fuckers did take Jake, they will wish they never had.”

Sebastian loved the fierce tone in Nathan’s voice. He would protect his pack mates no matter what. Sebastian also knew never to get on his mate's bad side. He looked like he would do some serious harm to him.

They made the short walk to Sebastian’s house, and Nathan followed him to the bedroom while he got dressed. Once he was ready to go, they went to the border of the pack lands and started their patrol.

Can the sexy doctor help him discover who he truly is?

Content Warning: Strong language, graphic sex

Read an Excerpt

How far was Jace willing to take this? He was comfortable in his sexuality and had known he was gay ever since high school. He had no problem exploring this relationship, but he wasn't sure what Parker wanted. Up until now, Jace only had relationships with men who were open with their sexuality. He'd never had to ask a potential partner if they were into men.

Jace sat on the edge of the chaise lounge, but never expected Parker to sit in the small space with him. He could have sat anywhere else in the room. That had to mean something, didn't it? They were close enough that their thighs were pressed against one another and their shoulders were touching. Parker had his hand in his lap, so Jace reached out and placed his hand on top of it. Parker looked down at their joined hands, and Jace could feel how tense his body was.

"Jace," he said. "This is all new to me."

"I know." He tilted Parker's chin up with his free hand. "But you can feel it."

He nodded and Jace felt a sense of relief. If Parker realized there could be something between them then that was half the battle.

"I've been trying to fight it all week," Parker said. "But when you're close to me, I forget why I'm trying to fight it."

"Maybe you should just go with what you're feeling." Jace wanted to encourage him, but he didn't want to push.

"I had a really good time tonight," Parker admitted. "And I want to see you again."

Jace leaned closer, never taking his eyes away from Parker's or removing his hand from his. He could feel Parker's warm breath on his mouth and his eyes looked so inviting.

"You're going to have to go slower than you're used to," Parker said.

"Slow can be good." Jace smiled as he brushed his lips against Parker's jaw, moving toward his mouth. Parker looked down and Jace sensed his embarrassment, but he couldn't help himself, so he slowly moved his lips against his. They were so soft and warm, and he wanted to explore more of him, but he didn't want to rush him.

He couldn't take it anymore. He had to deepen the kiss. He needed more, so he moved his hand over Parker's shoulder and up to the back of his head, pushing him closer to him as he slipped his tongue inside his mouth. Parker briefly reciprocated and Jace thought he'd blow his load from the taste of him, but then Parker pressed his hand against his chest and tried to push him away.

"I don't—" Parker was breathless, and although the man looked conflicted he didn't move his lips away from Jace's.

"You don't what?" Jace whispered against his mouth as he pressed his forehead to his and played with the hair at the nape of his neck.

"It's just different," Parker admitted. "But I like it." He shifted in his seat, and Jace knew exactly what he was feeling. He was sure Parker was just as hard as he was.

"Parker," he mumbled against his lips. "I'm willing to wait for you, so why don't you relax and let's see where this goes?"

Title:  The Overlord's Heir
Author:  Michelle Howard
Genre: Scifi Romance

About The Overlord's Heir:

With his enemy defeated and order re-established, Vaan plans to enjoy his life with his Raasa mate. Mikayla’s upcoming birth makes his heart sing with joy.

Mikayla prepares for the birth of her first youngling with her Overlord mate. This should be a happy time but Vaan must return to Kaban and reassure his people that he yet lives.

There are still those not pleased at the turn of events with Thenl’s downfall and seek to destroy what the Overlord has built. Will Vaan and Mikayla finally be able to relax or will trouble continue to follow them?

Excerpt from The Overlord's Heir:
(Used by Sapphyria's Book Reviews with permission).

When Balal returned to the lower level, Vaan cornered him. “How is she?”

His Warlord hesitated and then answered. “Hurt.”

Kavan came up behind him. “She is not pleased you kept this from her.”

Vaan knew that and accepted his actions. “Mikayla would have worried needlessly. I fear carrying our youngling has her judgment absent.”

Kavan folded his arms over his bare chest. “You should confine her to her bed while you are gone.”

Vaan felt a grin tug at his lips. Kavan and Mikayla had come to a mutual agreement between them that neither would discuss with him but Kavan often argued that Mikayla should settle into her role as mate. “You would have her angrier at me before I leave, yes?”

His Warlord cracked a small smile. “It would make watching her easier for Balal and I.”

Vaan grunted. Nothing involving his mate was easy. “Mikayla is not a Kabanian woman. Best we all accept and remember this then move forward.” He faced Balal. Mikayla’s favorite among his Warlords. “You will not allow her to endanger herself.”

“As you command, Overlord.”

Balal’s agreement came instantly but Vaan had witnessed Mikayla work around the youth in the past. “Have Assa help you if necessary.” Assa and Mikayla grew up together. His mate maintained a close relationship with all of her people due to her parents going to the Hills while she was a youngling but she was closest to Assa, Sera and Vesa. The house servants would be sure to keep an eye on Mikayla.

Balal ran a hand through his dark shoulder length hair and shifted his weight. “Assa no longer gives me her confidence.”

Vaan raised a brow at this news but Kavan burst into laughter drawing stares their way. Balal’s cheeks stained red.

“What happened, Warlord?” The Raasa female seemed enamored of Balal and often spent time in his company.

Kavan’s laughter died to chuckles and answered Vaan for Balal. “She is not pleased with his bed play.”

Balal punched Kavan in the chest and stormed from the hall, anger in his steps. Vaan sighed. This he knew something about. Perhaps, he’d offer Balal a hint to ease his way.

Slow Satisfaction Excerpt:

James's eyes were serious, even as his face and body were relaxed and languid post-orgasm. “Did I convince you to give me another chance?”

I considered. “You at least earned the chance to tell me what I don’t know.”

He took my hand in his, like he had so many times before. This time he kissed my fingertips, his eyes closing as he did. “I have a lot to tell you. More than any single interrogation might reveal.”

I squeezed his hand. “I shouldn’t have to interrogate you for the answers.”

He sucked in a breath. “No. Of course you shouldn’t. There’s so much I need to tell you if you’re really going to get to know me.” He reached up and traced the curve of my cheek with his fingertip. “Yet I feel like you know me better than anyone.”

“I do know you,” I said. “I just don’t know the facts about you.”

His gaze shied away from mine. “Many of the facts are sordid.”

“Says the man who put a six-inch dildo into me and walked me around the Metropolitan Museum of Art.”

“I mean much more sordid than that.” Now his face had completely clouded over.

“I want to know, James. I need to know. I have a right to, if we’re going to be together.”

He nodded, though his eyes were closed. “I know. I agree. That still doesn’t make it easy for me to open up.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Except during sex.”

“As you well know. Were you serious about what you said before? I would sincerely give you a piece of my past for every time you give me…” He kissed my fingertips again. “Anything. Sex. Your body. Your submission.”

Even though we’d just had sex, I felt a thrill go through my loins. “I wasn’t suggesting it lightly.”

“I want to be sure. Sometimes we say things in the heat of passion that seem less than wise afterward.”

“But sometimes we get inspired.” This could be the perfect solution, I realized. “I know the time you’re the most open is when we have sex. That’s the time your answers will be the best. Of course, if we do this, I could still revoke my forgiveness at any time.”

“Of course. Just as you can revoke your consent at any time. I understand, Karina. It’s the Thousand and One Nights, only this time I’m Scheherazade, telling the stories.”

I touched his face with my fingers, feeling like a weight was slowly lifting from my back. Maybe we were going to make this work after all. The fact that he was willing to try so hard made a huge difference in how I felt. And I wanted him. The part of me that had been needing him and pining for him all summer was quelled by the knowledge we could do this.

I sat up and discovered I’d been lying on something. In the dim light I could still recognize what it was. “These look a lot like a pair of panties I used to have.”

“That’s because they are.”

“You’ve been carrying around my underwear?” I turned to look at him.

Lying beside me on the pillow, he wore a familiar expression: serene and a bit bemused. “You left them in the limo once. Did you think I’d throw them away?”

“I never really thought about it before.”

“If I left a pair of my underwear behind with you, what would you do?”

“Yeah, I see your point. I’ve got a handkerchief of yours I keep in the—”

His expression changed suddenly, his eyes widening and his lips parting in slight surprise. “That’s it, isn’t it?”

I felt myself blush even though I wasn’t keeping anything a secret. “Um, partly anyway. My roommate—”

“I know. I met her at the spa that day. Becky. She knew the Lord’s Ladies.”

“Yeah. And she got one of the handkerchiefs you threw from the stage at Madison Square Garden. It matched one I got from you.”

To my surprise, James smiled. He sat up and kissed me softly. “If I believed in fate, I’d say that was a sign. What are the odds?”

“And are they better or worse than the odds of being struck by lightning?”

His smile turned into a laugh. “Was that a pun?” In a flash he pulled my legs onto his lap, spanking me playfully several times. I couldn’t help it, it was like being ambushed by tickling. I kicked and giggled and shrieked.

I wriggled free, hug-tackled him, and ended up on top of him in the center of the bed, kissing him all over his face. “I’m still mad at you, you know.”

“If you say so,” he said. “By the way, I agree with your mother. This is a nice dress.”

“She bought it for me today. She wants to meet you.”

“What have you told her about me?”

“That you’re rich and good-looking which is what she cares about most. My sister wants to meet you, too. They know you’re an art world type but that’s all.” I was coming to my senses a little, now that the intense pleasure of the orgasm was receding and the play-spanking had woken me up. “And if you’d really put the rock star stuff behind you, that’d be all they need to know. But that sounds like a big if.”

“A very big if.” He nodded slowly, his face sobering again into his usual mask.

That would not do. The biggest question he still hadn’t answered for me was the story of Ferrara Huntington. It was the biggest thing that I thought could still be a deal-breaker and send me out of here a single woman. I leaned down and nuzzled his neck, as if the subject were closed for now. He smelled delicious, igniting all my cravings again. I nibbled behind his ear. He arched under me, his cock not yet ready to harden again, but the rest of him responding just fine. He pulled me down beside him, kissing me back and exploring my neck with his mouth.

Hadn’t we just finished having sex? I felt my insides melting again though, my desire rising like a tide. Maybe my body felt we should make up for lost time.

Making out was nice and I enjoyed the feeling that we were in no hurry. When had we ever done this, kissed for the sake of kissing? I lost track of time. Minutes ticked by in my haze of affection, pleasure, and relief. Yes. We needed this kind of connection, too. Affection, exploring each other, letting chemistry take over.

My hands roamed his back, his sides, his hips, until one of them strayed between his legs and I sucked in a breath as I met the scorching hot stiffness there.

There was no reason to wait. There was so much we had to talk about. “You’re ready for more?” I teased.

“With you, Karina, I always am.”

Excerpt from Can't Let You Go:

Lynette slipped her shoes off, rolled her jeans to her knees, and dipped her feet in the cool lake. A massive weeping willow loomed overhead, by the light of the night the cascading leaves looked like a flowing waterfall.

She stared at the tree for a moment then flashed Ty a smile. "Thanks for bringing me here."

He put the cooler down next to an iron framed chair with beige cushions and sat on the edge. "I called in a favor. No big deal."

"Sharon and Kyle are pretty great. I've been to their house, seen the tropical paradise backyard, but this… I had no idea it was so beautiful. No wonder Kayla asked to have her wedding here." She raised an eyebrow, gave him a teasing grin. "Have you decided yet if you're going?"

"Depends."

"Well, if you do go, be warned, there will be dancing." Lynette plucked her feet from the water and stood. She grabbed her phone from her front pocket and searched through her music. She'd never danced lakeside under moonlight, and didn't want to pass up the chance, or the opportunity to be in his arms again. "You might want to practice. After all, there's no better way to woo the ladies. What will your date think if you're not fully prepared to swing her around the dance floor as if you own it?"

"Are you saying I'm a bad dancer, Miss Brooks?"

"Nope. I'm seizing the moment." She hit play on her phone, and a slow melody filled the silence of the night air. "Dance with me."

"Here?" he asked, glancing around at their surroundings.

"Of course! Why not?" Lynette grabbed his hand and pulled him to his feet. The hint of a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. The gesture caused all kinds of crazy little birds to take flight in her chest. "What else are we gonna do? Sit here and drink beer until we both pass out?" She laughed once then stood firm, feigning a serious face. "Wait, you didn't bring me out here to the most romantic spot I've seen in forever for nothing, did you?"

"I thought you'd like it." A huge smile plastered his face.

Ty took her other hand, maneuvered her in a half twist so her back was to his chest, then spun her out to the extent of his arm and back in where they faced each other. His right hand landed on the small of her back and pulled her close. He chuckled and did some kind of waltz type step to the music. Placing his palm on her chest, he pushed until her back arched in a way she never knew it could. Slowly, Ty ran his hand down the length of her torso, leaving a trail of unbridled heat that sent every ounce of blood in her body gushing straight to her core. By the time he jerked her back up her entire body had become a trembling heap. When their eyes met, she nearly came apart and fell through the cracks of the wood decking. What the hell?

Lynette wrapped her arms around his neck to keep from sliding through his hold, and tried her damnedest to control her lungs. She swallowed hard to tamp down the shaking in her throat. It didn't work, and her words came out sounding weak, quavering. "Someone's showing off."

"Someone asked for it," he said, low and resolute.

Sapphyria's Review:

Fresh out of college and not yet wanting to start "real" life, 3 college friends take to the friendly skies in a globe trotting adventure that is less backpacking through woods and more socialite acceptable.  Ciara Bree, Elle Muir, and Gem Howard decide to spend the first part of their trip in LA, having scored tickets to a movie premier.  Elle's wealthy grandfather gave the 3 full run of the mansion he owns there and Ciara, Elle, and Gem are in full relaxation mode.  The house, however, has an unexpected occupant:  Elle's hottie cousin, Zack.

The last thing Ciara was looking for was a relationship which makes the attraction to Zack perplexing.  Will Ciara and Zack look beyond the attraction and realize that nothing can come of it or will they give into the temptation?

What a fun summer read!  Quick, entertaining, and spicy!

Elle and Gem are prime examples of people who live by the monetary code and not so much by the common sense code.  Both are quite shallow actually. They get into trouble at an after party following the movie premier and call on Zack to bail them out.  Ciara is more of an innocent bystander to the shenanigans of Elle and Gem but considered an accessory since she, well, knows and hangs out with them.

Ciara is the more grounded, mostly level-headed of the traveling trio, not having come from a largely wealthy family.  She isn't comfortable accepting assistance from her friends and understands the value of her money and appreciates the hard work she's put into her bank account.  She must not be completely without money, however, since this globetrotting trip isn't cheap.

This is actually a pretty cute short story but it does contain some material appropriate only for the 18+ crowd.

Book Spotlight: Sterling Sunshine (Men of Alaska, Book 2) by Cheryl Dragon #EroticRomance @cheryldragon

Book Details:

Title: Sterling Sunshine

Author: Cheryl Dragon

Genre: MMMF Erotic Romance

Tour Organizer: N K Author Services

Excerpt from Sterling Sunshine:

Early on a Monday morning, the sun was already high and shining. Summer in Alaska meant lots of craziness with only a few hours of darkness. After the long dark winters, people soaked up the sun, and it meant not enough sleep, too much energy, and stupid stuff. Tony Wooden was ready for another day of tourists and locals who needed help. He saw all of it firsthand working as a paramedic with the Sterling Fire Department.

As he sat at the breakfast table across from his steady guy, Ross Isaac, Tony tapped on the side of his coffee mug. The excessive sun affected him too.

“Too much coffee?” Ross teased.

“Too much routine.” Tony glanced over. As usual, Ross was studying his tablet for the latest news. The new mayor of Sterling wanted to boost tourism and make his mark. At only thirty-three, he was young for that sort of job, but everyone liked him. A long-time resident, Ross was one quarter Native and it showed in his dark black hair and brown eyes. He wanted progress but respected tradition, which pleased almost everyone.

“Can I help?” Ross asked.

“I’m just a jealous jerk. My little brother Jason and his guys have the perfect woman for them and I feel like I’ve been off and on with guys all my life. I knew I liked men and women growing up. I found the right men, but Matt always makes it complicated with his job priorities. We’re finally set but we could be missing a chance,” Tony said.

“Gretchen.” Ross sighed. “I agree, she’s the best thing that’s happened to this town in a long time. And us. I’m just as interested as you are. You’re so cute when you’re smitten.”

“You have to like her and...” Tony stopped before he brought up the guy who’d hopped in and out of their lives regularly.

“She’s very attractive. I can’t say I’m in love right now. I more than like her but we haven’t had a lot of time to do any traditional sort of dating. She’s been busy moving up here. Back and forth to Michigan then setting up her advertising work with your brother and his group. It’s hard to seriously date someone who is still moving and settling in. Will she stay in Alaska? Plus I’m still figuring out this mayor job.” Ross grinned. “It’ll happen.”

“With just two of us? Or will Matt show up and ruin it? Throw a wrench in it?” Tony asked. He was used to putting out fires and handling emergencies, so when Matt landed in town, it wasn’t too bad. Ross and Tony dealt with it and enjoyed it. Maybe Tony had been putting off moving seriously on Gretchen because of the Matt question. He and Ross had spent time with her, but it was more friendly time at gatherings.

“He could jumble things if we’re trying to win Gretchen.” Ross nodded.

“No shit! He showed up right after the wedding she was in, but she was busy going back and handling things at her old place. By the time she came back, he was off again. They’ve crossed paths at most. Now she’s staying with her friend Melody and my brother and Ryan and Dale, but Matt’s gone again. I don’t want to screw it up. It’s already complicated,” Tony said.

“Small towns are always complicated. New women don’t move here every day. We shouldn’t keep things on hold. I think she’s settled in now and, with summer here, we have lots of events and options to socialize. But are we ready to shut the door on Matt? Maybe he’d settle in if we had the right woman?” Ross asked.

Tony had been wrestling with that for weeks. Matt had met Gretchen once or twice while he was here, but, like most times, he’d gotten some job and hopped in his plane.

He didn’t want to lose Gretchen over it, but Matt was a complicated guy. His dad was an ice-road trucker who was gone for long stretches. It seemed to be genetic. Matt was a pilot who loved to take high-paying jobs transporting things needed by people living on islands and in remote areas. Not every place had a ferry, and once it warmed up, the ice roads shut down. He made good money, and Tony understood, but it was hard to build a relationship without all the players.

“What do you think?” Tony turned the question back around on Ross.

“We love him. We always will. We know what he is and accept it. He’s not going to change tomorrow because of an ultimatum. We just need to live our lives. If we want Gretchen, we go after her. Date her. Two stable men isn’t bad. Gretchen came up here for Isa’s wedding. Isa only has two men and she’s very happy,” Ross said.

“And if Matt drops in while we’re dating? You know his timing,” Tony replied.

“Then we tell the truth. We tell Gretchen all about him and our history. The ménage tradition in this town is odd enough. She doesn’t seem to mind it for her friends. Guys with jobs that take them away for chunks of time is part of why the ménage structure worked in Sterling. Being on the Kenai Peninsula, some of the men went out in boats to fish while others went north and up the mountains to mine. And everyone hunts. All of it is dangerous. Sharing a woman gives the family protection. Matt says he wants the old-fashioned relationship because he loves the real Alaska.” Ross shrugged.

Tony nodded. “Matt loves the adventure. He could make a living around here giving tours. We just have to be honest with her. Two men are plenty when you have such a safe job. We’re both in town.”

“Isa married two men in the coast guard. There are no guarantees in life. You have to roll the dice and hope for the best,” Ross said.

“I know. I want to make her part of our life and keep her safe. I deal with chaos at work. I don’t like chaos in my personal life.” Tony left the table and put his dishes in the dishwasher.

“Then you should’ve cut Matt out a long time ago. A new player means uncertainty. She might not like it. She might want four men. Who knows? The longer we wait, the better the chance other men will go after her. Right?” Ross asked.

Tony leaned down and kissed Ross slowly. “I know. When you explain it, it makes sense. I want to offer her the world not a hard to explain trio.”

“If we’re that hung up on her, we need to stop stalling and move on this fast.” Ross looked at Tony. “You’re worried I won’t fall for her?”

“Of course I am.” Tony sighed.

“I’m crazy about you, and we both can’t get Matt out of our system. I think the odds are good. Let’s see what we can do to get her attention.” Ross cleared his place.

“I hope I haven’t waited too long.” Tony leaned on the counter. “She was moving and working but I danced with her at the wedding and stuff.”

“Stuff?” Ross asked.

“Nothing like that. Flirted. You’re right. We need to move on it before she thinks we’re not interested. I just don’t want Matt to screw it up.” Tony knew he was overanalyzing and looked at the time. “Work is always a distraction. Have a good one.”

“You too, and stop worrying,” Ross said.

That was easier said than done. Tony wanted a stable family of his own. Tourism did better over in Homer. Sterling was a bit more traditional, but they had their share. New women moving in didn’t happen much. Any woman wouldn’t do. Gretchen caught his attention, and Tony trusted his instincts.

Growing up in Alaska, he was ready for the bear in the backyard or the moose on the road. He trusted his gut on a camping trip or when driving in a blizzard. At work he made split-second decisions about life, death, and the conditions around him. When it came to personal things, he agonized because he had time to think. He couldn’t trust that Gretchen and Matt would work out. He wasn’t that lucky, but he couldn’t pick between the two. He had to trust Ross and explore the options.

* * * *
Gretchen stayed out of the way as the flurry of activity swept through Melody’s home. Technically it was the guys’ home, but she’d relocated and made it hers. Three kisses and the men headed off to their boat repair shop while the women lingered over coffee.

“Well the boat repair business is picking up,” Melody said.

“I wish we could get your dress-making business humming.” Gretchen had been working on advertising but it wasn’t working as well. Alaskans were a fairly practical lot. Fancy dresses were for very special occasions only.

“I’m still getting some work, but the self-sufficient nature of Alaskans means sewing isn’t the most in-demand skill. Weddings are my best business, but people might not have the funds to buy custom gowns.” Mel shrugged.

“But you’re happy?” Gretchen asked. She knew the answer and was doing her best not to be jealous of Mel’s blissful state. Alaska was an adjustment, but Mel had easily transitioned to a complicated relationship.

Mel grinned. “Very.”

“Good. I think if we focus on weddings, we can build a business for you. We’ve got some samples and you’re working on a few more. I’m trying to get a meeting with the mayor. Maybe link up with the tourism push I heard he’s looking to do.” Gretchen’s mind whirled as she nibbled a piece of bacon leftover from her breakfast.

She’d been working hard to prove her new job; helping with the advertising and promotion of the boat repair and dress design business was worth it. After a long stretch of unemployment, she had purpose. There was plenty to do but progress was only showing on the boat side. Gretchen feared that was just the good weather, but she’d gotten the word out farther than the guys.

“You don’t need to push so hard, Gretchen. No one expects magic overnight. We’re doing the bridal show in Anchorage. That’ll help,” Mel said.

“It will and it’ll be even better if we can build up Sterling as a spot for destination weddings. Alaska is a great vacation place, we can make Sterling a great location to get married in and enjoy the scenery, the nature, and all that good stuff. If we can tie our promotion budget in with the town, we’ll more than double the reach.”

“Destination weddings? Here?” Mel asked.

“Sterling has it all. Small, cute feel. Water and gorgeous nature settings. The men can fish, hunt, hike, and all that. Women too. Or the women can do the wine tasting in Homer like we did. We need to build up the draws for women because they really are the ones who make the wedding decisions.” Gretchen nodded.

“That’s true. There’s a beauty salon in town. Not a ton of shopping beyond basics. Photographer.” Mel frowned.

“You’re sure you’re not going to have a wedding? We could make a blitz of promotion about that.” Gretchen grinned.

“No. Marriage is great for some people, but I won’t play favorites.” Mel shook her head.

Mel had overcome a lot of marriage doubts and independence issues to move here. Committing to such a complex relationship was great progress, and Mel didn’t want to be legally married to one man and not the others. Gretchen admired her friend’s perspective, but she couldn’t imagine still not wanting a big wedding. Legal or not...it was a celebration!
“I hope gay marriage is made legal here soon. That’d add to the business. Two brides, double the dresses. Or two custom-designed tuxes works too. Group marriage will take forever, but we don’t need it to be legal to throw the party,” Gretchen said.

“I know you were out of work for a while and it was really depressing, but you don’t have to push so hard. Big things take time. I won’t be a billion-dollar dress designer in a day. Especially not after moving here.” Mel patted her friend’s hand.

Gretchen took a deep breath and sipped her coffee. “I get it. Too much too fast. Too much pressure on myself. It’s just so nice to have something to do. I’m living in your house and eating your food. You know I just want to make myself useful.”

“You are. There’s no rush to move out. Trust me, the guys don’t mind. The deal was room and board while we get things going. Once business picks up, we can start paying you more. You can find a place, if you want to stay,” Mel said.

“I’m not sure I want to live alone here. Definitely not yet. It’s different, but nice. Small town. Things feel a bit simpler, yet other things are a lot more complicated.” Gretchen had been eating more in-season fresh fish and local meats instead of the processed food that were cheaper and easier to come by in the lower forty-eight. That alone helped her take off the weight she’d added while jobless.

“You fit in better than I did at first.” Mel checked her phone.

“It’s summer too. That helps. The darker winter was a rough way to explore a new town with wedding stress on top of it. You were a great maid of honor and made fabulous dresses in the dark. At least now we know what we’re in for. We can soak up the sun and prep for the winter.” Gretchen looked down at her smartphone.

Technology was a big part of what helped Alaska run better these days. Even if they were snowed in, information still came through. “What if we do an app?”

“An app? For dresses?” Mel asked.

“Yeah! What if we had an app designed where women take a selfie and pick a design of yours, and it adjusts to their form? They could virtually try on your whole line. There would be a place to put in for a custom dress, of course. But the idea is they can see what you’ve done and how it’d look on them from anywhere. We could advertise in Canada and all over Alaska. Offer the app for free.” Gretchen started making notes in her phone.

“You’re really good at this. See. I knew I hired the right woman for the job. Maybe Ryan can help?” Mel suggested.

Gretchen nodded. Ryan was the tech expert of Mel’s men. “Make sure we load those prom designs you did too.”

A text popped up on her phone.

From the office of the Mayor: He has an opening at 11 a.m. today. Please reply if you’d like this spot or not.

She replied yes quickly. “I’m seeing Ross today at eleven. Hopefully he’ll be on board.”

“He will and he’s hot.” Mel grinned.

Gretchen’s jaw dropped. “You have three hot guys.”

“I meant for you. Tony was flirting with you at Isa’s reception. He and Ross are an item. They’d been running into you every chance they get. You don’t see it? I don’t know why they haven’t been here trying to get you out on a date all spring,” Mel said.

 About Sterling Sunshine:

Gretchen isn’t in Sterling to find men. At least she keeps telling herself that. She has a new job to do promoting local businesses. Still, she can’t resist hoping she’ll find the right group of hot men to really make her dreams come true. She already has her eye on a certain sexy trio, and when they fail to make the first move, she uses work to make a meeting happen. Alaska is definitely bringing out her bolder side.

Tony and Ross are eager to date and seduce the voluptuous beauty but their third lover is a roaming pilot with notoriously bad timing. Do they count him in or out? Should they wait for him to show up or move on her? The attraction proves too hard to resist, but Matt turns up just in time to make it a foursome. It complicates the relationship but adds to the passion. Besides, love and lust aren’t practical.

The deeper Gretchen gets into the lives of her three men, the more she knows they need to be shaken up and she’s just the woman to do it!
