Happy Release Day ~ Read to Me by Nona Raines

Novella Details:

Read to Me by Nona Raines
Published by The Wild Rose Press (a Scarlet rosette)
Genre: Erotic M/F novella
Releasing: May 30, 2014

About the Novella:

At the age of forty-four, Blaise Blankenship believes her own opportunity for romance has long since passed until she accidentally lands in the lap of a sexy stranger. She and the handsome Latino connect over an afternoon at a local bookstore, sharing their love of erotica. Blaise is swept away by an impetuous, hot, "no last names" night together. But the morning after reveals a truth she can't ignore—or avoid.

Novella Excerpt:

A waitress appeared at their table. "What can I get you?" "Do you have any Krupnik?" Blaise asked. The young server's brow crinkled. "I don't…" "It's a honey flavored drink," Guy told her. She shook her head. "I don't think we have that." Then a smile stole across her face. "But maybe I can come up with something." She left, and the two of them sat without speaking. The silence was a comfortable cocoon enveloping them, connecting them. There was no need for speech. A bit later, the waitress returned with two rocks glasses half-filled with an amber liquid. "Honey flavored Kentucky bourbon," she explained as she served them. Guy paid the woman then lifted his glass in a toast. Blaise followed suit. "What shall we toast?" "To happy accidents," he proposed. "That works for me." They clinked their glasses, and Blaise took a sip. Though unusually sweet, the drink had the familiar burn of whiskey. Heat spread down her throat to her belly and below. He touched the book. "Shall we continue?" She nodded, and Guy opened to the page and began to read. People around them chatted and laughed, going about their business, but she and Guy were in a bubble. No one looked their way. No one paid them any mind. They were in a tiny universe all their own. Blaise sipped her drink, sliding closer to him in the circular booth. He was so big, so warm. Just being near him made her body heat rise. Perspiration bloomed, and her blouse clung to her skin. Her nipples, hard and achy, poked against her bra. A few words penetrated the haze—something about the Hummingbird's Kiss—but it wasn't the story line or the whiskey making her woozy. She was getting drunk on the low, sensual timbre of Guy's voice. Soon the words blurred into an incomprehensible buzz in her ears. Her breath slowed as she watched his lips move. She pictured herself kissing them, licking the sweetness from them. Lowering her gaze to his hands, she imagined them touching her. He'd skim the pads of his fingers along her torso, fasten those succulent lips of his on her nipple and pull… Her pussy responded to the fantasy with an answering pull. She shifted slightly to ease the throb between her thighs. Her movement must have distracted him. His gaze flickered from the page to light on her face and his voice trailed off. Guy nodded to her empty glass. "Another?" She'd finished it? When had that happened? "No." Her tongue felt thick. "Would you like something else, then?" he asked.
She knew what exactly she wanted. The question was, did she have the guts to ask?

It's your last chance. Your last adventure before you become the boring old mother of the bride. Take it. Take it! Gathering her courage, she took the leap. "Yes." She placed her hand on his thigh. Underneath her fingers, his muscles tensed. His eyebrows lowered and his gaze sharpened. "Yes." She squeezed his thigh. "I want to get a room. Let's go upstairs."

Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: A Cat's Tale by Melissa Snark

A Cat’s Tale by Melissa Snark

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Alpha werewolf, Jared Kohl, wakes up in a vampire’s dungeon, swearing revenge upon the wily Siamese werecat who lured him there with her sultry lips and the sweetest tail. To escape his undead captor, all he has to do is seduce the skittish puss and show her that trust is often a hot and hard lesson to learn.

Enslaved feline shifter, Josephine Young, has learned the hard way not to believe in anything or anyone—not men, not love, and certainly not the blood-sucking mistress who tossed her into the cage with the hungry beast she’d betrayed. But Josephine does what she must to survive, including tempting the dominant werewolf to give her more than promises.

Imprisoned for their blood, Jared and Josephine fight for survival and discover a passion that neither can walk away from. Can these two predators survive long enough to prove that cats and dogs can be more than enemies?

Excerpt:

“Ooph.” Jared’s breath expelled from his lungs with the sudden addition of Josephine atop his chest. The cot creaked under the strain of their combined weight.

The curious blue-eyed cat shoved her head between the werewolf and his book. He had been ignoring her for hours to read. It was unacceptable. “Whatcha doing?”

“Plotting to take over the world. What the hell does it look like I’m doing?” He closed his book.

“Don’t be surly.” She stuck the pad of her palm against his chin and brushed his lips with her knuckles. “No one likes a grumpy werewolf.”

“Funny, I don’t recall ever worrying about my popularity.”

“You should.” Josephine watched as he set the book aside. “Does Shakespeare say anything about cats?”

Beneath her, Jared contemplated in silence, his chest rising and falling with comfortable regularity. “In Othello, he says, ‘Drown thyself? Drown cats and blind puppies.’”

“Ouch! Hey, no claws!” Jared jumped as Josephine’s claws dug into his bare chest; he grabbed her and lifted her. His laughter echoed through the small cell.

“Something more flattering.”

“Henry IV: ‘I am as vigilant as a cat to steal cream.’” He lowered her to rest upon his chest again.

Sapphyria's Review:

When Jared, a werewolf, wakes up in the cell of a vampire, he knows the sexy werecat he spotted at a club is to blame.  The determined werewolf has to figure out a plan of escape but can't get the werecat out of his mind.  While attempting, and succeeding at lulling the vampire into a false sense of security, Jared formulates a way out for him....and Josephine, a Siamese shifter.  Only one problem ~ He can't concentrate when all he wants to do is play with the pussy in the cage with him.

At the beginning of Jared's captivity, he requests that Josephine be given to him - after all - he is providing werewolf blood to the vampire mistress.  She starts off being very fearful and distrusting of Jared but can you blame her?  I would be scared of the big, bad wolf, too.  The banter between Jared and Josephine does pick up and become playful to the point of foreplay....and then they just can't stay away from each other.  That is, until it's time for Jared to make a break for it.  Will Jared perform the ultimate betrayal and go back on every word and promise made to Josie?

Some of the dialogue wasn't really smooth but the author did a great job conveying her story to her readers.  Jared is a very strong, dominant alpha that can play the bit part of a submissive wolf when the situation calls for it but watch out when his dominance reveals itself.  Josie is an emotional wreck.  She's been a slave of the vampire mistress for so long that she's just a broken housecat, unable to trust anyone.  She does a lot of submissive actions and cries a lot.  She's fearful of the vampire, the werewolf, and of her heart.

A Cat's Tale is a fun and steamy romp in the land of the paranormal where cats and dogs play together and try to escape the clutches of a blood-thirsty vampire.

Book Excerpt:

Kay gave Storm an amused look. “In some ways this feels more familiar than watching TV with my wife. ”

They were separating from Ram and Rev, going opposite ways in an alley. Storm looked back over his shoulder at Ram and Rev walking away. On a whim he called out, “Sol!” Without hesitation, Rev turned and said, “Yeah?”

The four of them stood frozen, Storm and Rev staring at each other, Kay and Ram looking back and forth between the two. Let it never be said that Ram didn’t know how to handle a situation delicately. “What the fuck, Stormy?”

“You know, that’s a good question, Ram. And well put.” Storm didn’t take his eyes off Rev.

“Something you want to tell us.”

Rev pursed his lips before growling. “No.”

“You sure?”

“You gone hard of hearing?”

Storm’s gaze was a concentrated challenge, pinning Rev in place, but he moved in close enough for quiet conversation.

“How about clueing us in, brother,” Kay was as calm as the eye of a hurricane as he nudged Storm. “What’s going on here?”

“Has it seemed to you that there are things about the new Sovereign that seem familiar? Eerily so?”

“Like what?” Ram asked as he eyed Rev from top to bottom.

“Oh, like the fact that he smokes the same brand of Turkish cigars that Sol used to smoke. And lights them with an old school fluid lighter. Then he puts the lighter down in front of him and turns it around and around the same way Sol used to.” Kay turned his attention toward Rev and began regarding him with increased interest. “How about the way he screws up his mouth when he’s aggravated or the way he steeples his fingers when he’s making a decision?”

Rev lifted his chin in defiance and narrowed his eyes at Storm. “And let’s not forget the fact that he took a bead on Farnsworth about thirty seconds after arriving Jefferson Unit. Doesn’t it strike you as a little strange that he handles Sol’s job like he knows what he’s doing? No. Not like he knows what he’s doing. Like he’s done it before!”

Ram eased around in front of Rev so that the three veteran members of B Team appeared united as the inquisitors they had just become. They stood in a dimly lit alley with accusation hanging in the air, waiting for Rev to answer.

“Your imagination’s just got the better of you, Sir Storm.”

“There! Right there. I never met another knight who called me Sir Storm. But Sol did.” Storm glanced at Kay. “All the time. Called me Mr. Storm when I was a kid. Switched to Sir Storm when I was inducted.” He stepped closer to Rev. “When I called Sol’s name, you turned around like you’d been answering to that name your whole life.”

Ram and Kay were giving Rev looks that said the questions weren’t going to go away just by staring Storm down. Finally Rev replied with the cool of an iceberg.

“So what are you saying? Exactly? That I’m a body snatcher?”

“What I’m doing right now is asking questions.”

“I don’t have answers for you.”

“NO!” Rev’s answer was a little too forceful and a little too quick.

“Start talking.” Rev blew out a breath and looked around at the alley.

”Let’s go sit down somewhere private.” He ran a hand through his hair. “I’ll buy a round of drinks and tell you a story. Not about me mind you. A story about a guy I heard of.”

Excerpt from Mark of the Highlander:

Though they stood a good foot apart they might as well have been entwined with all the attraction crackling between them. He arched a brow and though he didn’t move toward her, his words certainly yanked her back against him. “More muscles. Far more strength. A tireless perseverance that I promise will make you weep.”

“Tireless,” she whispered.

“Perseverance,” he promised. “Determination.”

She licked her lips and tried to look away. Impossible. He looked so bloody good standing there in a plaid with the mountains cheering him on and the highland wind working fully to his advantage.

“You have no idea how hard it was for me to transform my feelings into something platonic. But I did. This. You.” She made a loose gesture in his direction. “Reignites old wounds.”

Colin nodded and instead of continuing to undress her with his practiced eyes he grabbed her hand and pulled her towards him.

“So let’s start over, Kay, sorry, McKayla.” He squeezed her hand. “I promise not to call you that until I earn back your trust. I dinnae deserve that level of closeness. Not yet. But I promise you one day I will. I want to earn back not only what I lost when I ended our relationship but what I lost because of all the lies. While I beg for my clan’s forgiveness, allow me to ask for yours as well, a thousand times over.”

A small shiver rippled through her. Did he really crave her forgiveness as much if not more than those who raised him? His very family? It was hard not to be humbled because she knew he was being truthful. She wasn’t being naïve, not this time. He meant it. Regardless, he wasn’t getting off that easy. “Let’s work at rebuilding the friendship and not worry so much about the relationship, okay?”

Colin nodded and led her into the forest. “Seems like a good start.”

That sounded like he intended the friendship to be a mere formality and for them to pick up where they left off. If he thought she was jumping back into a relationship, he was in for a rude awakening. “Friends, Colin. That’s all I want right now.”

“Aye,” he agreed. “Friends. Once earned.”

Again, something about the way he said it made her think he was a lot more arrogant than he thought he was.

She must decide between the concrete and the chaos, the light and the dark, for her choice will tip the scales between good and evil, and quite possibly cost Jolie her soul.

About the Quickie:

Author: Madeline Pryce

A Romantica® paranormal erotic romance from Ellora's Cave

Release Date: May 14th, 2014

Price: $1.99 (1.49 @ Ellora’s Cave)

Genre: Erotic, Paranormal (Vampire)

Length: Quickie (10,000 words – meant to be devoured in one sinfully delicious sitting)

Sapphyria's Review:

Claiming Ecstasy is sinful and scorchingly hot.  This quickie truly is made for one sitting - the plot is easily understandable and all loose ends are tied before the end.  The reader will have no problem being completely engulfed in this forbidden love affair wrought with hot sex, a little BDSM (but not too much), and potential for deceit.

The author starts this quickie right in the middle of a mind blowing sex scene between the Seelie court's fairy princess, Jolie, and her prophesied mate, Nicholas, the vampire king.  Only, Jolie's mother, the Seelie queen has different plans for the destined pair.  Will Jolie fulfill her mother's demands or will she disobey and stay by the side of the man she wants to be with forever?

The intensity that sits within the pages of Claiming Ecstasy brings pleasure, pain, and internal battles of will to whole new levels.  The author does a superb job combing kink, control, and internal struggles together in what is probably one of the best sexually charged short stories I've read.  The sex is unbridled but written in such a way that it almost seems elegant instead of raunchy.  It's explicit but tasteful (I've read some really bad attempts at sex scenes).

Be mindful when making the decision to grab a copy of Claiming Ecstasy - about 95% of the novel takes place in the bedroom.  I do, however, recommend this Quickie by Ellora's Cave if you LOVE steamy sex and lots of it!!

Blurbs and Excerpts/Teasers for Each Novella in the Anthology:

JUST ONE NIGHT by NY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Caridad Pineiro.

He has just one night to prove to her that anything is possible . . .

Jason Hart, Jase to his friends, has just graduated college and earned his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. It's the night of the graduation party and she'll be there. His best friend's slightly older sister, Nickie. Nickie is the only woman he's really wanted for a long time. He has just one night to make it happen.

She has just one night before the man of her dreams leaves, maybe forever, but can she find the courage to take a chance . . .

Nicole de Salvo has been in love – and lust – for her little brother’s best friend for years. For years she’s watched from afar and done nothing about her attraction for Jason Hart only now their time together is almost at an end. On their last night together will she find the courage to do something about her feelings, or will she live with regret for the rest of her life?

Chapter One Excerpt from JUST ONE NIGHT:

Nicole de Salvo stared out the train window as every passing mile brought her closer to home . . . and to him.

It had been a hectic day with a dash down to the Philadelphia area for her brother's and Jase's graduation and then a rushed trip back to New York City for an interview for a position she wanted for her summer break from medical school. An interview that couldn't be rescheduled no matter what.

The nearly two hour train ride down to her family's home on the Jersey Shore was long, but at least it would give her a moment to catch her breath and prepare for seeing him again.

For seeing Jase, possibly for the last time.

He had looked amazing that morning in his dress uniform, sword at his side and his second lieutenant's bars gleaming in the morning sun. The deep blue of the uniform had made his green eyes seem aqua, like the ocean bathed with brilliant light. Tall and imposing, he had looked every inch an officer and a warrior until he had fixed his gaze on her and offered up the wicked little boy grin that did all kinds of things to her insides.

She pressed a hand to her stomach to quiet the nervous flutters as she thought about seeing him again once she arrived at home, where her younger brother Tommy's graduation party would be in full swing. It had been tough enough seeing Jase that morning, knowing that with every minute that passed their time together was fading away.

This night at the party and knowing it would be the last one they'd share was going to be one of the hardest things she ever did.

Driving that thought from her mind, she glanced out the train windows and caught glimpses of the shoreline and ocean visible from the North Jersey Coast line.

They'd all spent so much time in those waters, her, Tommy, and his best friend Jason. Jase to his friends.

She was a friend, kind of. After all, they'd grown up together and had spent many a lazy summer along the shore. But as they'd gotten older, something had changed.

The typical teasing between kids, between her and Jase, had become more flirty. Definitely full of subtle sexiness. Or at least, it had gotten that way on his part.

She hadn't known how to handle it when an eighteen year old Jase had settled that green-eyed gaze on her, flashed her a not-so-innocent dimpled grin, and heat had ignited inside her. Four years later, she still didn't know how to handle him.

He was like a little brother to her, although the annoying voice in her head shouted a big, “Hell to the no” and reminded her that they were only two years apart in age.

Reluctantly she admitted to herself that Jase was definitely not like a little brother. Not since she'd come to understand that the weird little tingle she got whenever she saw him or talked to him meant that there was way more to her feelings for him.

More that she had yet to explore, only time was running out for them.

AN INDECENT AFFAIR PART I by Stephanie Julian

One night. One woman. Two men. Twice the desire.

Katrina refuses to give in to her mother’s demand to marry a man she can’t stand. After years of trusting no one with her heart or her body, she wants to be swept off her feet, to experience complete surrender, if only for one night.

Tristan has lusted after Katrina for years and tonight he’s making his move. He’ll steal her away from his brother, who doesn’t deserve her. Then he and his best friend, Adam, will give her exactly what she wants…

“Maybe you should back off for tonight,” Adam suggested.

Tristan shook his head. “We do that, she has time to barricade herself into whatever safe hole she’s got.”

“What if she bolts anyway?”

“Then we follow.”

Adam looked at him with raised brows. “And I suppose you know where she’s going to bolt to?”

Tristan just stared back.

Adam conceded the unspoken point with a slight shrug. “Of course you do. And you don’t think she’ll be freaked out when we show up on her doorstep?”

“She’s going to have to get used to us sometime.”

Because Tristan wasn’t about to give in and go home.

He’d been waiting too damn long for his chance with her. To show her how much he wanted her. How much pleasure he and Adam could bring her.

TYED by Raven Morris

It's Kylie's birthday and she'll do anything to ensure her one night with Ty isn't a once-in-a-lifetime event... Anything.

Teaser from TYED

The elevator dinged the arrival at their floor. Ty sighed and did up his shorts. “I don’t know why I’m bothering. It’s not as if there’s going to be anyone out there waiting to see. I pay good money for my privacy.”

“This is private?” she asked when the doors opened to wall of windows, floor to ceiling, with a stunning view of LA spread out before them, all the way to the ocean, not a curtain to be found. More windows filled the wall on the right, too.

“You see how high up we are?” Ty said, leading her into the space. “Only someone with a telescopic lens is going to see us and hell, no one’s safe from those anywhere.”

She walked over to the window. The Pacific ocean sparkled in the distance, one of the few days the air was smog-free enough to see it. “It’s gorgeous.”

Ty came up behind her and put his hands on either side of her on the glass, trapping her there with his body, his scent, his very presence. “So true.”

She met his gaze in the window’s reflection. “You’re not talking about the view, are you?”

“Not the one outside the window.”

It felt so good to feel desirable. Bill hadn’t been into flattery—or even a general, feeling it vibe. Sex between them had been stagnant from day one.

What was moving against her behind was anything but stagnant.

PUMPED by Willow James

Skylar Sole's fantasy becomes reality when the object of her affection shows up with that sexy, lopsided grin and a tantalizing proposition. These two wayward souls soon discover that not all propositions are as simple as they sound.

Teaser from PUMPED

They grabbed iced coffee from the deli and Skylar thought they’d sit down to talk. Instead, Griffin gestured for her to follow him outside.

“Let’s take a walk.” Griffin held the door open for her and waved goodbye to the deli employees. “The park is just up the street and it would be a good place for us to talk privately.”

“Sure.” Standing in front of the deli, Skylar glanced at him and damn if her stomach didn’t flutter when those gorgeous green eyes latched onto hers. A smile played at her lips before she sipped her coffee. Looking at him over the rim of her cup she said, “As long as it’s not too private and there are still people within screaming distance.”

“Funny you should mention that.” Griffin brushed past her, his arm grazing her hers with the lightest of touches. Without turning around, he murmured, “Making you scream is part of my proposition.”

Excerpt:

With bare hands splayed across the open wounds, Grayce squeezed her eyes closed and prayed for control. Begged. Pleaded to a God she’d never before acknowledged.

Chelsea needed time to get away.

Grayce prayed for Chelsea, prayed for Zander. Prayed they wouldn’t die because of her.

Her wits slipped away. Raw emotion drove her actions now. Blood covered her arms. Her lips throbbed with the remnants of his kiss. A kiss that felt like goodbye. He couldn’t die. The primal need to protect him overwhelmed her senses.

“Take me,” she implored. “Take me instead.”

Hell’s own fire coursed through her veins. Savage. Brutal. Pissed off.

She would’ve sold her soul at that moment to keep him alive. Zander didn’t deserve this. She did.

Earth and grass swirled and gyrated, turned to ash around her. Her small fingers stretched across his bloodied and shredded skin. Her insides boiled. Her skin bubbled and vibrated with indignant protest.

He said he loved her, now he was dying. Why? What kind of cruel, sadistic joke was this, anyway? Violent trembles overtook her as an earthquake made its way through her body from the inside out.

“I will not let you die.”

First Chapter Reveal:

I can't even blame it on the booze. There wasn't any, or at least there wasn't any for me. I was with Chloe, my bodyguard. Okay, actually she was my friend, but a really overprotective friend who knew all about what I’d been through and wanted to make sure it never happened again. So, no alcohol.

But, what she and I hadn't counted on was him being there. There I was, minding my own business, putting in my time at the Med School Social, more than ready to head home for some studying, then Chinese food and a movie. And suddenly, him.

I was inhaling when I caught sight of him, but my breath just stopped. It felt like being punched in the chest. I kept telling myself, look away, look away! But it was impossible. I was paralyzed. His beautiful face and magnificent body were magnets, and my eyes were locked on them.

I hadn't felt this kind of physical attraction since, well, ever. I had never felt like that. I had stayed away from men for two years. I was pretty much terrified of them, to tell the truth. But there he was. Unavoidable and irresistible.

I saw him in profile. Oh, that hair. Thick, almost curly, falling into his eyes. The kind of hair you need to gently push off of his face right before you kiss him. Or, the kind of hair you grab really hard right before you're about to...

But, I'm getting ahead of myself. The point I'm trying to make is that my mind very clearly recognized all the dangers ahead and was saying, “Turn around, go, get out of here! Before it's too late.” But then he turned around to look right at me. It was already too late.

We held each other's gaze a second longer than politeness required. Something inside me went click, and for the first time in almost two years, I felt young and alive, and really, really turned on. Every part of me suddenly woke up, and all the best parts started to tingle. I was breathing harder. My lips parted slightly, already begging to be kissed.

It was a little overwhelming. I was out of practice. No, actually, I had never had the kind of practice you would need to stay controlled in a situation like that. I think maybe you can have a soul mate for your mind, and also one for your body. And my body was saying “Get me over there right now!”

But I was still too afraid. I smiled a little and turned away.

I had to stay for a while, to look sociable, so I went over to the food table and stared at the snacks, which were already stale. Nothing looked very good, and my throat was too tight to eat anyway.

I was starting to formulate a plan for escaping without the other students or the teachers noticing when I felt the air move behind me, the softest caress against my bare shoulders. Then, a hand on my back, an electric shock to my body, wildly pleasurable. I gasped and spun around. Right into the arms of...

“I'm Liam.”

Liam. Right into the arms of Liam. Oh, he was even more beautiful up close. My hand rose all on its own to push that wonderful floppy hair from his face. I stopped suddenly, embarrassed, but he caught my wrist, and held my palm gently to his face. We looked at each other and knew.

“Wanna get out of here?” he asked, and of course, foolish, foolish woman that I am, I said, “Yes.”

I saw him my first day at the new hospital. I'm a medical student and had just finished the lecture part of things where we sit around learning about chemical reactions and body parts. That was over, at last, and we were moving on to seeing real live patients in the hospital.

The orientation was step one in getting us ready for our new roles. We each got a short lab coat and a tour of the locker rooms. We received our ID tag photos.

I'm not sure why I first noticed Liam.

Since the bad thing happened, I keep my head down and make eye contact with pretty much nobody. I wear my hair in a tight bun at the nape of my neck and my clothes are dull and loose. On that particular day, I was trying very hard to concentrate. I was excited to be starting work in the hospital, but I was mostly terrified. There was so much to take in and remember. My head was reeling after only two hours. The last thing on my mind was men. So, who knows why I took that second look as he walked by our group.

Well, actually I do know why. He was gorgeous. Ridiculously gorgeous. Dark wavy hair, just slightly overgrown so he looked like a happy surfer who'd tumbled out of bed. Smiling eyes. Sparkling, mischievous, movie star eyes. A little bit of stubble, likely because he had been on call all night. The rest of him looked pretty much immaculate. He wore light wool pants and a sky blue shirt. No tie, but the white lab coat made him look professional enough.

I was dedicated to maintaining my nun-like lifestyle, but, seriously, it was impossible not to look at him. Even Chloe noticed him. She looked at him, then at me. She shook her head lightly and whispered, “No”. I laughed a little because she sounded like a mom telling a toddler that she couldn't have any candy. Well, that was pretty much what was happening, so I guess Chloe nailed that.

She was absolutely right. I didn't want any trouble. Certainly not that awful, frightening feeling of falling in love. No time-consuming romance. And certainly not all the time I had lost trying to recover from the trauma of what had happened before. Even a plain old tiny heartbreak could set me back, and put me way off course in my career.

No, I didn't have the time or energy for any distractions. Nothing. Just work and school.

So I ignored the stunning resident with the black hair, and tried to focus on the tall blond giving us the orientation spiel. This was much easier because I felt no attraction to him at all. He was really handsome, too. But something about him seemed mean. Or maybe arrogant. It's hard to remember what I thought of him that first time, because the memory is so clouded with all that came after. I'll just say he was a tall, slim blond who should have caught my eye, but didn’t.
