Joe Blackwolf is celebrating his 40th birthday. And what he wishes for when he blows out the candles is to find his True Mate. He succeeds when he meets Mandy Goldwolf. “Am I dead, Angel? Cause you look like you’re straight from heaven!”
“That has to be the worst line I’ve ever heard,” Mandy laughed, looking up into warm brown eyes. She shivered as he settled into the chair beside her.
“Maybe, but it made you laugh.” He took her hand. “Can I buy you a drink?”
Joe waved over a waiter and ordered for them without once releasing her hand. She could feel the rough calluses guitar playing had created on his fingers, but they turned her on. He turned her on.
This was Joe? “Good ole Joe” as Eddie called him. He was neither good nor old. No. He was gorgeous…and talented. Zach wasn’t kidding when he’d said this Blackwolf was a great guitarist and singer. For the first time since Carly bugged her, she wished with all her might she hadn’t lied about Zach being her mate. Zach might be handsome, but Joe made her throb in places that hadn’t throbbed in all of her thirty-five years.
“So what’s with the camera, Angel? Fan or reporter?”
Mandy looked down at her fingers clenched around her camera strap. If she told him who she was, he’d back off so fast she’d see skid marks on the floor. Just this once, she wanted to pretend she was someone else. Just tonight. She leaned forward pressing her lips against his ear.
“I’m more than a fan. I’m a groupie. Can’t you tell?” He shuddered, turning his head he met her gaze. The fire glowing in his eyes set her boiling. Yes. She had to have him. Now.
“A groupie? For just any rock musician?”
“No, Joe. I want you.”
“Fuck, yeah,” he growled, standing so abruptly his chair toppled over. No one nearby noticed as he dragged her to her feet. “Where?”
Mandy looked over toward the hallway leading to Zach’s office and smiled. They had a clear path. She pulled him after her and they ducked into the shadowy space. He pressed her to the wall and took her mouth in a deep kiss. Their mouths meshed together. Joe pulled back to nip at her lips, then ran his tongue along the inside edge of her lower lip. She caught his long dark hair in her fingers, holding his mouth to hers.
Fire. Heat. She’d never felt anything like this in her entire life. She moaned as his mouth slid to nuzzle her neck. Mandy wrapped her free arm around him, clutching his leather jacket. She lifted her right leg along his hip. He stepped into the opening she’d created, thrusting his hips against hers.
She shivered as his rough fingers slid along her leg and under her skirt. He slipped his fingers under her panties and cupped her ass. Grasping her, he pulled her more firmly against his hard cock. He reached up to her peasant top, untying the drawstring to bare her bra covered breast. His hot breath teased her neck and then his warm tongue grazed her skin as he licked his way over her curves
“Hey. Anyone seen Joe?” Mandy and Joe froze as she heard Eddie’s voice. He was close. Too close. She looked out of the entrance of the hall. She didn’t see him, but he was right there. She knew it. Mandy closed her eyes, fighting to keep her panting excitement from giving them away.
“I think I saw him with a hot chick earlier. I didn’t get a good look at her though. Just noticed she was his type.” Tom responded with a laugh.
Joe groaned in her ear, and kissed her cheek. She turned to look up at him. He was still on fire, she could see it but there was a definite question in his dark eyes? Stop or go?
She lowered her leg and he sighed, then she smiled and grabbed his hand. “This way,” she whispered.
Mandy knew there was an empty unlocked office back here and she wanted this wolf and she wanted him now. He chuckled as they moved into the darkness. She found the door on the right and turned the knob. Hearing the click, she pushed, wincing at the creak when the door stuck. He pushed her through and they shut the door behind them. Mandy flipped the light switch, blinking a bit to adjust to the table lamps that came on. She’d been expecting an overhead. They looked at each other and grinned.
Joe pulled her over to the empty desk and she climbed up onto it. He stroked her cheek. “You’re sure?”
“Yes. I don’t want to stop. Not now.”

Francesca Hawley, author bio

I’m Francesca Hawley and I’m a fat chick. A woman with dangerous curves just like my heroines.

I first began to read romance when I was in my teens. I loved the genre, but the heroines were all thin. Their thighs didn’t rub together…had never rubbed together…and frankly I had trouble relating to these ladies. The stories were great—full of emotion and well told, but the heroines weren’t like me and that was a major disappointment.  I kept wondering where were the fat heroines? I found some occasionally, but to have their Happily Ever After they usually had to lose weight and go from ugly duckling to swan.

Well, I wanted a fat heroine who loved herself—or at least learned to love herself—and a hot alpha hero who liked her jiggly bits just the way they were. Since I didn’t find many big girls to read about, I decided  to write about them myself. After all, I loved to write anyway and had been writing almost as long as I’d been reading, so Francesca Hawley – author of Romance with Dangerous Curves was born.

In a Francesca Hawley romance, my readers will find authentic, sensual, fat heroines who love and are loved by their intense, passionate, and seductive Alpha heroes. I hope you enjoy their dangerous curves just as much as their hunky heroes do.

The Nymph’s Labyrinth Chapter One (Partial Chapter)
Present Day
Shoveling dirt in a dark, forbidding hole was the last place Ariadne Papadakis wanted to be. She used the trowel in her hand as a weapon to scrape the clay away. A drop of sweat trickled down the ancient black tattooed snake on her arm, past her elbow, over the serpent’s weaving body, and stopped at the base of her wrist as if it was afraid to enter her palm where the head of the snake was poised for attack.
The city of Gournai sat at the base of a Cretan hill, a blister of light in the callous night. Ariadne could remember when the town had been nothing but a few villas and a market, perfectly rural—a great location for a secret. Now it bustled with modern life and somewhere within the public maze, sat an archeologist who wanted to expose the Labyrinth she and her sisterhood of nymphs had kept hidden for so long.
How had Beau Morris found their secret…a secret that had been hidden for thousands of years? She couldn’t know for sure, but now she had been ordered to deal with the consequences of his action.
Earlier that day, while Ariadne had been working at the museum in Heraklion, a braying couple from Alabama had been amongst the handful of visitors. They had laughed at the bare breasts of the statue of Epione, the snake goddess. They had snickered and made jokes of the serpents that graced her arms and her ample breasts. They never paused to consider what the woman had once meant to so many and still meant to Ariadne’s sisters and all nymphs. They had just laughed and gawked at the oddity before them. Stupid Americans.
Did no one revere what is sacred anymore? Had culture changed that much?
Ariadne pushed the thoughts from her mind. There were some things about the modern world that she just didn’t understand, and Dr. Morris’ ardent desire to destroy the nymph culture by exposing the secrets of the Labyrinth was at the top of her list.
Couldn’t he just leave some things alone?
If he found the Labyrinth, the artifacts would sit in the museum, and like the statue of Epione, be pointed at and mocked—or they would be misused. The sacred Labyrinth needed to stay exactly as it was, hidden from science, from prying eyes, mocking laughs, and greedy hands.
She jabbed the trowel into the hard earth.
The trowel-marked square walls around her seemed to move in a little closer as Ariadne worked. She swallowed back her fear as she looked up at the night sky. When she was done, she could get out of this place and never come back.
Her gaze fell to the exposed light gray column at her right. For a moment she stared at the moonlit carved stone, it reminded her of the thousands of years that had passed since she had been born. Each year brought a new challenge, a new set of problems. She ran her finger against the arid dirt and brought her fingers to her nose to smell the burnt sage, the citric aroma of oranges, and a hint of olive.
To have an archaeologist sticking his nose where it didn’t belong was an invasion tantamount to war. Subterfuge was the game and nymphs had thousands of years of practice.
The ocean breeze picked up and with the scent of salty air, came the dank, putrid scent of forbidden secrets. A hooded crow called out, announcing the arrival of night and sordid undertakings, and pushed Ariadne back to work. She needed to complete her task and get out of the depths. She needed to get back to Heraklion, back to normalcy and out from under her sisters’ command.
The tip of the trowel struck gray volcanic ash and Ariadne stopped. The top of the Minoan-era dirt sat exposed and vulnerable. Ariadne grabbed the box beside her and pulled off the cardboard lid. After she slid on a pair of latex gloves, she lifted the tiny skull and placed it in the hole.
Lifting the rest of the bones one by one, she laid them beneath the skull. Ariadne thought of the child to which these bones had once belonged. She and the child must have been alive at the same time. Had she seen the little one playing in the fields or at the market? Maybe the child would like the mischievous game she was playing, but only if she was successful.
It was of no use to wonder about the past. Now these were just bones, and the child’s spirit was alive and well in the heavens.
Ariadne moved on to the ribs, lying one bone above the next.  In no time, she was done. After all, the skeleton couldn’t be too perfect. This was supposed to be a body that had been resting beneath the earth for thousands of years, not a freshly sown grave.
Satisfied, Ariadne pulled the sweaty blue latex from her fingers and stuffed the gloves into her back pocket. Grabbing her trowel, she carefully pushed the soil over the body and packed it down.
Perfect.
The roar of a car stopped her in her tracks. Looking up, Ariadne watched as headlights bounced off the edges of the pit above her. Her heart pounded.

Saph's Review:

When Goddess Epione spurns the advances of Zeus, he condemns the entire line of nymphs to never be able to fall in love with humans without the risk of killing them.  Upon her death at the hand of Zeus, Epione's glass scepter is taken and housed in a hidden labyrinth in Crete for protection.  The nymph sisterhood has maintained secrecy and kept the labyrinth a secret for thousands of years.....until now.

Dr. Beau Morris is in Crete looking for proof of the mythical labyrinth and the staff that is supposed to belong to Epione.  He knows he's on the right trail but just when things get hot, he loses his funding, the governor gets shot, the site is shut down, and his estranged son (who is now with him in Crete) comes down with an incurable disease.  To top it all off, he falls for the museum's head curator, Ariadne, the girlfriend of the governor.

Ariadne is a shape-shifting nymph of the snake line.  She's been a dutiful member of the sisterhood even when the leader, Kat, uses and abuses her and keeps putting her down.  When the labyrinth is compromised by Dr. Morris and his team of students from the United States, Ariadne is put in the position to deter him and do whatever it takes to shut the dig site down.  She doesn't, however, count on being attracted to this human that could potentially expose the entire line of beings that the world considers to be mythical.  Plus there's that whole curse thing....

Ariadne was written beautifully.  She starts off being extremely taken advantage of and disrespected by her boyfriend, Stavros, and by Kat, the head of the sisterhood. By the end of the book, though, Ariadne proves that she can hold her own.  Much of Ariadne's issues stem from the early days of her life and those events have just eroded her self-esteem to the point where we find her in modern day.

Beau is the estranged father of an 18 year old son, Kaden, he hadn't seen in 10 years, due not because of Beau, but due to Beau's ex-wife, Lynda.  Lynda is a very selfish woman and when having a son invades on her new marriage, she flies Kaden all the way to Crete and dumps him off at the dig site where Beau is at.  Now, not only does Beau have to deal with the woes at the dig site, he now has a son he doesn't know, sulking around.  The relationship between father and son is developed as well as can be expected in such a short time frame, especially since there were so many years of absence in each others' lives.

The relationship between Beau and Ariadne is mesmerizing.  The fact that they are building a forbidden relationship gives the story an edge.  What will happen with Beau because of the curse?  What will happen with Ariadne if she falls in love with Beau?  What if she allows Beau to discover the Labyrinth?

I'm a big fan of Greek mythology.  "The Nymph's Labyrinth" is spin on Greek mythology by bringing it nto the modern era and letting us absorb the fact that maybe it's not so mythical after all.  The romance that has been made forbidden by Zeus' curse gives this novella a nice twist .  The author, Danica Winters, does a fantastic job at world building and creating characters with intense emotion and depth, even those with less than admiral intentions.  The descriptions of events, scenery, characters, and various other things are very rich and so real.

Now it's time for a vacation. But their hopes for a perfect Paris holiday are dashed when Cat awakes one night in terror. She's having visions of a vampire named Gregor who's more powerful than Bones and has ties to her past that even Cat herself didn't know about.

Gregor believes Cat is his and he won't stop until he has her. As the battle begins between the vamp who haunts her nightmares and the one who holds her heart, only Cat can break Gregor's hold over her. She'll need all the power she can summon in order to bring down the baddest bloodsucker she's ever faced . . . even if getting that power will result in an early grave.

Saph's Review:

Destined For An Early Grave is Book 4 in Jeaniene Frost. My reviews for the first 3 books can be found by clicking the following links.

"Halfway to the Grave" Book 1

"One Foot in the Grave" Book 2

"At Grave's End" Book 3

What would you do if you were married to the person you knew without a shadow of doubt was the person you were meant to be with, but then your dreams are invaded with thoughts of being married to someone else several years prior?  This is what is happening to Cat.  After finally getting to go to Paris on a real vacation with Bones, Cat's dreams are invaded a vampire that insists he is blood bound (vampire version of marriage) to Cat and it was done prior to her blood binding with Bones.  When Gregor starts coming to Cat in dreams and Bones discovers what's going on, things go from bad to worse.  Gregor is known as the Dreamsnatcher; he can invade dreams and if your dreaming self comes into contact with him, he snatches you and pulls you back to where he really is.  Then Mencheres deals the most devastating blow - He erased part of Cat's memory from her teenage years, and while he can't bring them back, Gregor can -- and does and the return of those memories will shock you!

There are many emotional scenes in "Destined For An Early Grave."  The situation between Gregor and Cat causes many unpleasant repercussions.  Cat and Bones' relationship becomes very strained, at best, and leads to some very unfortunate happenings.  The relationship between Cat and her mother is tense as always.  And some very shocking, upsetting situations occur.  All-in-all a fantastic 4 book in the series.

Even though this is book 4 in the series, we get a really good idea at just how much of an issue trust still is between Cat and Bones.  I think it's more Cat that has the issues than Bones but the scenes executed between them are perfectly done.  The plot twists and turns concerning Cat, Bones, and Gregor are well thought out and written well.  We get to see some of Cat's old team again in this installment and several of Bones' ancient friends.  There are many new characters introduced as well - some still live at the end and others, well, not so much.  Ghouls abound and hover on both sides of the impending dispute between ancient vampires.  "Destined For An Early Grave contains a lot of suspense.  There are many moments that really have you on the edge of your seat.  The last two chapters are extremely intense.

Readers also get to see more of the vampire lifestyle and culture in Book 4.  It draws on the previous books but clarifies a lot of the politics among this group of people.  Vampire ways are obviously much different than the ways of mortals.  This certainly comes into play at the onset of Gregor's claims that he is the one legally blood bound to Cat.  Ms. Frost does and excellent job weaving all of the storylines, plot twists, drama, and suspense together.

I was completely engrossed in this book from cover to cover.

Release Day Blitz: "Cupid Rocks" by Francesca Hawley (Presented by Bewitching Book Tours)

Hi everyone - Francesca Hawley here!

On December 21st, my shapeshifter erotic romance Leader of the Pack was released and now, another shapeshifter romance is on the way. Cupid Rocks is a Valentine's Day themed story featuring a guitar god and the chick who digs him.

Joe Blackwolf was inspired by Joe Perry. Hot. Talented. With the looks and sex appeal to drive women wild. Especially when he starts to play that guitar. But Joe...MY Joe...views himself as a bit of a screw up. He comes from a family of classical musicians and his father, in particular, looks down on rock music. Joe has always wanted to please his father, but he went his own way and followed his heart and soul by playing rock music.

Mandy Goldwolf grew up in The Pack, her parents' rock band. It's a regional band with a strong following but they aren't Aerosmith. They don't play stadiums, they play bars and small festivals. The Pack, and its members, love to perform and the crowds love them right back. Mandy used to perform with the band, but had a traumatic experience when she was much younger. Forgetting the words during a competition caused her to freeze on stage and since then, she's had morbid stage fright.
Joe and Mandy meet when The Pack comes to Whitewolf, Colorado to play a gig and the sparks fly. What follows is a celebration of birthdays, Valentine's Day, and two disparate families trying to get along. The course for true love - and True Mates - doesn't run smoothly but Joe and Mandy know that as long as they have each other, the world and their lives are better.

Here's the story blurb:

Cupid Rocks

When her parents' rock band, The Pack, performs at Zach's bar, Mandy discovers her True Mate, Joe Blackwolf, the band's lead singer and guitarist. All she has to do now is convince Joe that she told a little white lie to make her mom happy, her father that rock musicians aren't all alike, and her new mate's family that rockers aren't all that different from classical musicians.

Joe Blackwolf is celebrating his 40th birthday. And what he wishes for when he blows out the candles is to find his True Mate. He succeeds when he meets Mandy Goldwolf. Problem is...she belongs to someone else. Finding out the truth leaves him free to explore every inch of her smokin' hot curves, but now, Joe and Mandy are neck deep in overbearing relatives and everyone is in for a rockin' Valentine's Day!

Prologue

London’s Hanover Square – 31 December 1720

It was an unusually late hour when the staid Earl of Blanchard, a man of unusually stringent habits, stumbled past his footman reeking of spirits. Endeavoring to escape from the putrid fermentation of growing scandal, he had withdrawn to his club to spend the evening into the wee hours in solitary rumination of the shambles of his life.

She was his second wife, younger by thirty years, and he’d been an infatuated fool for her. He’d nearly ruined himself with the extravagant gifts he’d used to woo her, and now for his madness he was accounted the biggest cuckold in the country. There’s no fool like an old fool.

After hours of reflection, he’d reached a solemn resolution, but now that he stood outside her bedchamber, he found himself faltering. His hand trembled on the knob, for he already knew what he would find on the other side of the mahogany portal. Nevertheless, he was unable to fight the self-destructive impulse to see with his eyes what his heart and mind had continued to deny.

Devoid of candle or lamp, he entered her chamber and advanced to the tester bed, drawing back the luxurious silk hangings with quavering fingers to expose the shadowy forms entwined in the deepest repose of sated slumber.

The Earl of Blanchard retrieved the loaded pistol from his pocket, vacillating with an unsteady hand between the two targets— his wife and her lover—until the latter turned in his sleep to reveal shockingly familiar features in the dim moonlight.

Overcome by the unspeakable treachery, the earl stumbled backward, clutching his chest, gasping for air. In the end, he placed the muzzle in his own mouth and pulled the trigger.

SUPER SEXY EXCERPT:

More silence, too much silence.
It upset him. All his life he’d been patient with everyone now this mere slip of a girl was making him wait longer. Fully aroused and unbelievably out of character, he tightened his hold and ran his lips along the edge of her smooth, damp jaw.
Inch by inch, he ran his lips down toward the edge of her lips only to notice that they were quivering. Before he—with five hundred years of wizardly knowledge under his belt—knew what was coming she reached around and turned not only her lips to his but her entire body until her front meshed against his.
He growled with need, cupped her arse and pulled up, meeting the swift rise of her legs as they wrapped around him. Lips sweet with sea water crushed against his. Their tongues swooped and crashed more thoroughly than the consuming, eager ocean that cocooned them.
“Bloody hell,” he murmured into her mouth.
Unlike Mildred, he was without clothing and his member struggled against her warm belly like an anxious serpent desperate for a deep, clenching mystery. For all her youth, her lithe body seemed to have an excellent grasp of the male anatomy. Her legs tried to climb his torso and her lips molded to his with the talent of a sensual sea siren.
Before he understood what he was doing, Adlin shoved through the waves and turf and had her pinned beneath him on the less-than-smooth Scottish shore. Would this woman never stop pulling dangerous magic from him? It mattered little as he clasped her hands and dragged her arms above her head.
They still had so much to talk about. So much he needed to tell her. When a tiny, little whimper of pleasure fell from her parted lips, Adlin didn’t give a bloody hell about anything anymore but getting as deep inside her as possible. With a sharp tug he pulled down the front of her clingy, wet, white garment and wrapped his lips around an eager nipple. Arching in pleasure, she cried out.
He almost burst with release.
Forget magic. Shoving this flimsy thing up her wet thighs and settling in for the plunge seemed so much sweeter an idea.

Thoughts of Chase, the Alpha of the Black Meadows pack, made her heart torpedo in her chest and rockets go off in her stomach. Dangerous.
For months I’ve had dreams and nightmares about how perfectly he personifies the word. Sleep-laden, alternate realities where I can vividly smell his musky male scent, feel his hard body against mine. Taste the sweet and sensuous flavor of him-–like milk chocolate with its silky demand that I indulge in one more bite. And another. So good I’d forgotten there’s a price for overindulgence. And there is a price. There is always a price. I was reminded of this life lesson on Saturday night. And I know now, no matter what he says, no matter what he does, I cannot--will not--see him again.
It started out as any other erotic adventure with him. Unpredictable. Exciting. I barely remember where it all went wrong. How it took such a dark turn.
He’d ordered me to undress and sit on the mattress, against the headboard, my legs spread wide for his viewing. Naked before him, open to him, I was vulnerable and quivering with need. Never in my life had I taken orders from a man; most certainly I had never thought I would quiver with anything. But I did for him.
If Saturday night proved anything, it was that once I was with him, under his spell, he could demand anything of me, and I’d comply. He could push me to the edge, to unbelievable places I’d never thought I would go. Exactly why I can’t see him again. He makes me feel possessed, and what is so disconcerting about this feeling is that I like it. I can hardly wrap my mind around allowing such a thing, though I burn for it. But when I saw him standing at the end of the bed Saturday night, all broad and thick with sinewy muscle, his cock jutting forward, there was nothing but that need.
He was magnificent. Really, truly the most gorgeous man I’ve ever known. Instant lust exploded inside me. I wanted to feel him close to me, to feel him touch me. To touch him. But I know now not to touch him without his permission. And I know not to beg him to let me.
I’ve learned my lesson from past encounters. He enjoys the vulnerability of a plea far too much. Enjoys withholding his pleasures, until I am nearly quaking with the burn of my body. Until I am liquid heat and tears. He likes that power over me. He likes full control. I should hate him. Sometimes, I think I love him.
It was the blindfold that should have warned me I was headed toward a place of no return. Thinking back, I believe it did. He tossed it on the bed, a dare, and instantly a shiver chased a path up and down my spine. The idea of not being able to see what was happening to me should have aroused me-–it did arouse me. But for reasons I didn’t understand at the time, it also frightened me. I was scared and I hesitated.
This did not please him. He told me so, in that deep, rich, baritone voice that makes me quiver uncontrollably. The need to please him had been so compelling. I put on the blindfold.
I was rewarded by the shift of the mattress. He was coming to me. Soon, I knew I would come, too. His hands slid possessively up my calves, over my thighs. And damn him, stopped just before my place of need.
What came next was a shadowy whirlwind of sensation. He pulled me onto my back, flat against the mattress. I knew satisfaction was seconds away. Soon he would enter me. Soon I would have what I needed. But to my distress, he moved away.
It was then that I was sure I’d heard the click of a lock. It jolted me to a sitting position, and I called out his name, fearful he was leaving. Certain that I’d done something wrong. Then relieved when his hand flattened on my stomach. I’d imagined the sound of the lock. I must have. But I couldn’t shake the subtle shift in the air then, the raw lust and menace consuming the room that didn’t feel like him. It was a thought easily forgotten when he settled heavy between my thighs, his strong hands lifting my arms over my head, his breath warm on my neck--his body heavy, perfect.
Somehow, a silk tie wrapped around my wrists and my arms were tied to the bed frame. It never occurred to me that he could not have done this on his own. That he was on top of me, unable to manipulate my arms. But then, he was manipulating my body, my mind, and I was his willing victim.
He lifted his body from mine, and I whimpered, unable to reach for him. Again silence. And the whisk of fabric. More strange sounds. Long seconds ticked by, and I remember the chill that snaked across my skin. The feeling of dread that had balled in my stomach.
And then, the moment I know I will die remembering. The moment when the steel of a blade touched my lips. The moment that he promised there was pleasure in pain. The moment when the blade traveled along my skin with the proof he would be true to his words. And I knew then that I had been wrong. He was not dangerous. Nor was he chocolate. He was lethal, a drug, and I feared…
